Community Outreach and Engagement
About
The Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center’s (HICCC) Community Outreach and Engagement Office (COE) brings together a team of experienced researchers, clinicians and community health educators. Working with community stakeholders and community members, HICCC cancer patients, and their families, we are committed to reducing the burden of cancer. We strive to understand the needs of the communities and patients served by the HICCC, and work to remove access barriers to cancer prevention, screening, treatment and survivorship services in our catchment area.
HICCC's Catchment Area
Our catchment area includes the five New York City boroughs, Westchester and Rockland Counties in New York, and Bergen County in New Jersey. COE strives to understand the needs of the communities and patients served by the HICCC, and remove access barriers in cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship services.
Our Mission
We aim to put research into action through events, programs, and proactive outreach to inform communities about evidence-based cancer prevention and treatment strategies and connect them to appropriate resources.
Our Aims
- Monitor the cancer burden of the HICCC catchment area (CA).
- Outreach to connect the CA to evidence-based preventive, screening, and treatment services.
- Research: Promote and facilitate impactful research driven by the four HICCC research programs in the CA.
- Engage communities in the CA to support, implement, and disseminate community educational, research and policy initiatives.
