Sidney B. Eisig, DDS, FACS
Overview
Dr. Eisig is Chief of the Hospital Dental Service at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the George Guttmann Professor of Clinical Craniofacial Surgery and Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the hospital, and Chair of Hospital Dentistry at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine.
He received his dental degree from New York University and then completed his general dental internship and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, and New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, respectively. Dr. Eisig received additional training as the maxillofacial surgery fellow at Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Hospital.
Dr. Eisig is the Section Editor for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Journal and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He volunteers abroad by treating patients with cleft lip and palate on Healing the Children missions to South American countries. He practices full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery, with a particular interest in orthognathic surgery (corrective jaw surgery), craniofacial and cleft palate surgery, maxillofacial pathology and reconstruction and implant surgery, and pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Eisig's principal research interests are in stem cell cranofacial regeneration and he has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters.

Global Health Activities
Dr Eisig has been travelling to Neiva, Colombia as part of a Healing the Children Team (directed by David Hoffman, DDS) for many years to provide primary and secondary cleft lip and palate surgery. He is a member of a large multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive care to children including surgery, orthodontics, and speech therapy. Speech therapy, including education of local speech therapists and family members, is provided by Dr. Cate Crowley and her faculty and graduate students of Teachers College. In addition there is an IRB approved study of genetics of clefting in collaboration with Wendy Chung, MD, PhD fro the Division of Pediatric Genetics of Columbia University.
