Career Development Opportunities for Mid-Career Faculty

Irving Emerging Leaders Program
The Irving Emerging Leaders Program at the HICCC is a multi-year, application-based leadership development program designed to support the professional growth of early- to mid-career faculty. The program ensures equitable access to participants and focuses on developing key leadership skills through structured activities, mentorship, and skill-building exercises. The aim of this program is for participants gain the knowledge, skills, and institutional connections necessary to advance their careers and assume leadership roles within HICCC and the broader biomedical community.
The program includes:
- An individual orientation with program leadership
- Four half-day synchronous virtual group sessions
- Interviews with institutional leaders
- A celebratory dinner recognizing participants’ completion of the program
Participants are expected to demonstrate full engagement in all program activities, including sessions, mentorship meetings, and related events, to ensure a meaningful and enriching leadership development experience.

Faculty Seminar Exchange Program
The Faculty Seminar Exchange Program supports early-career faculty as they transition to mid-career by providing invited presentation opportunities across peer cancer centers. This program is designed to help participants expand their academic networks, gain external exposure, and present their research to broader audiences in a virtual format, contributing to their professional growth and leadership development.

Awards and recognition
We offer a streamlined process for recognizing and supporting faculty through institutional, regional, and national award opportunities by providing coordinated guidance, assistance with letters of support, and logistical coordination for submissions. Through this effort, we aim to highlight the achievements of our faculty, elevate their visibility within and beyond Columbia, and celebrate excellence across our cancer research community.

Bioscience Writers is a Columbia-vetted consulting service specializing in scientific editing, translation, proofreading, and formatting of documents. Faculty are encouraged to utilize this resource for guidance and feedback, and it is also available to others on a self-funded basis.
