Overview
Ron S. Gejman, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and a medical oncologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Gejman specializes in the treatment of advanced skin cancers, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers such as squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma. He specializes in the care of patients with skin cancers that arise in the setting of solid organ transplantation and other forms of immune suppression.
Dr. Gejman’s research is centered on cancer immunology and the development of new cellular therapies for patients with cancer. His research centers around how tumor microenvironment and immunosuppressive medications shape the immune response. In addition, he develops new immune-informed therapeutic strategies for the treatment of advanced skin cancers.
Dr. Gejman received his BA from Columbia University and completed his MD and PhD through the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program at Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Rockefeller University. His doctoral research focused on T cell recognition of tumor antigens. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School and fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at Columbia University/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Gejman’s research has been supported by the National Cancer Institute, the Cancer Research Institute, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology among others. He is committed to integrating state-of-the-art clinical care with translational research aimed at developing safer and more effective immune-based therapies for patients with advanced skin cancers, including those whose treatment options are limited by organ transplantation or chronic immunosuppression.
