Research

Tamas Gonda, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at Columbia University. His research area is pre-clinical and translational investigation of new therapeutic and chemoprevention targets in pancreatic and gastric malignancy. He has been funded by an NIH and AACR Innovator grants to study the effects of epigenetic modification on the tumor microenvironment. Most recently, his focus has been on the potential of epigenetic priming as a way to improve response to immunotherapy in pancreatic cancer. His clinical expertise is in pancreatobiliary diseases as an interventional gastroenterologist. As Director of Endoscopic Research at Columbia, he has been involved and served as principal investigator on several translational and early phase clinical studies in both pancreatic premalignant conditions and pancreatic cancer. His clinical and translational research interests include the area of early biomarkers in pancreatic cancer as well as the use of endoscopic targeted molecular markers and therapies.
